Jays Nab Third Baseman With Power

Alex's Blue Jays just made another low risk move by claiming Shawn Bowman from the Mets. A former 12th round pick from British Columbia who twice hit nearly 20 homers at two levels of A ball, has power to spare and plays great defense. His power has been missing over the past three seasons due to fracturing the same vertebrate in his back not once but twice. However, with a virtual bare cupboard of 3B prospects, the Jays were willing to take a chance on the 25 year old who may yet fully recover and find his power stroke. Like most power hitters he walks too little and strikes out too much so needs to work on his plate discipline. The Mets were willing to give up on him since he was blocked at 3B anyway behind David Wright. Only time will tell if this is another shrewd move by AA. He should be assigned to New Hampshire where he hit 9 homers and had 44 RBI for Mets Binghamton farm club in 2009. More scouting reports can be found in these links.

  1. I like it, guys with power are harder to come by these days. Plus you never know players develop at their own pace, look at that Nelson Cruz for the Rangers.
